•  Standard Consultation

A standard 20 minute GP consultation costs £75 on weekdays and we endeavour to see you on the same day of your call. To ensure that your condition is satisfactorily resolved we do not charge for follow up consultations that relate to the original condition, and are seen within 48 hours of the original consultation.  In the event that you require a longer consultation with the doctor then this is charged at £90 on weekdays.  Please note: A cancellation fee of £35 will be charged for appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment.

• Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax is essential in forming a protective coating of the skin of the ear canal. It is being made by our bodies all the time and is important in keeping the ear clean. The shape of the ear drum is important in carrying away debris and wax and is sufficient in self cleaning, as flakes or crusts of wax occasionally break off and fall out of the ear. Sometimes this self cleaning system does not work and a plug of ear wax forms.  Plugs of ear wax can cause a sensation of blocked ears, loss or dullness of hearing, tinnitus and sometimes pain. The doctor can confirm presence of a plug on examination.

 

Ear syringing, or ear irrigation, can be successful in ear wax removal and MediClinic offers this service at its practices in Guildford, Putney and Wimbledon.  The painless procedure is carried out during a standard consultation (at a cost of £75) and can be booked same day as long as the ear wax has been softened.  Ear wax removal involves squirting lukewarm water into the ear canal dislodging the softened plug of wax which falls out with the water.  This is assisted if the patient has dabbed a few drops of Otex wax softening drops, or olive oil, in the ear for at least three days or so before the appointment. This softens the ear wax for the ear syringe treatment. 

There are no side effects from this method of ear wax removal however some patients have reported feeling dizzy for a short time afterwards. Inflammation of the ear canal can also follow ear syringing which can cause discomfort and itchiness. We recommend treating this with ear drops for a few days.  If you already have ear pain, a discharge or previous serious ear problems, we advise you to seek medical advice first.   It is not advised you have ear syringing if you have the following:

• Surgery for certain ear problems.
• Recurring infection of the ear canal (otitis externa),
• Have, or have had, a perforated ear drum 

It is advised you consult you doctor before using Otex ear drops if you have eczema or dermatitis of the ear as you may have a reaction which would result in itching, pain or discharge from the ear.

 

• Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are available, in certain cases without consultation, to existing MediClinic patients. New patients will require a consultation first which will be charged at the relevant rate.

• Blood Testing

Blood testing for a wide range of blood tests e.g. cholesterol testing, private pregnancy and fertility testing, HIV / STD testing , diabetes and thyroid function tests, allergy testing, menopause testing. Blood tests are individually priced and we provide you with the results of the majority of blood testing within 24hrs. In most circumstances patients will incur a consultation or phlebotomy fee.

• ECG

Should you have a history of heart disease and would like a check-up or a test to diagnose chest pain, MediClinic can conduct ECGs (electrocardiograms) in the Putney, Guildford and Wimbledon medical centres. Our doctors can interpret the ECG result during the consultation and provide guidance on management of your result.

• Referrals

It is not possible to book an appointment directly with a consultant (eg. MRI/ CT scans and certain investigations) without a referral letter from a GP. Our doctors have full access, and strong working relationships, with consultants and specialist clinics (private and NHS) situated in and around Guildford, Putney and Wimbledon. Our doctors have experience working with both the NHS and the private sector and will refer you to the appropriate consultant; whereafter the consultant will confirm your appointment with you. For example, should you be searching for dietician, paediatrician or physiotherapy referrals, our private doctor clinic can connect you with the relevant consultant.

• Mole Screening (Guildford and Wimbledon only)

• Minor Surgery (Guildford and Putney only)

We perform a wide range of minor surgical procedures e.g. removal of moles, removal of ingrown toe nails, removal of cysts, suturing of wounds and lacerations, removal of stitches, cryotherapy for warts, ear wax and syringes etc. Minor surgical procedures are charged individually.  

• Flu Vaccinations

We have the 2008 flu vaccinations, or “flu jabs”, in stock at £25 per vaccination.  Administering the flu vaccine is a quick and simple process with high effectiveness especially for the seasonal winter months in London.
