Cervical Cancer, Cervarix and Gardasil

• caused by HPV or Human Papiloma Virus
• the2^nd most common cancer in woman younger than 35
• 21 women die of cervical cancer each week in the UK
• up to 80% of sexually active woman will become infected with HPV in their lifetime
• Cervarix and Gardasil are anti-HPV vaccines which protect against certain types of HPV virus
  
• Cervarix is currently licenced for females aged 10 - 25
• Gardasil is currently licenced for females age 9 - 26, and males aged 9 - 16 (protect against genital warts)

Cost

The cost of the Cervarix or Gardasil vaccine is £150 per dose and his includes the standard consultation.  The recommended doses are as follows:

• Dose 1- 0 month
• Dose 2 - 1 month after 1st dose (for Cervarix) or 2 months after 1st dose (for Gardasil)
• Dose 3 - 6 months after 1st dose

We would also recommend that you consider the following:

• A routine PAP/ Cytology (£55) and a HPV smear (£115) which can be done during your first consultation to screen for active HPV and other cervical abnormalities.
• Pregnancy tests (£25 each) may be done at each visit to exclude pregnancy.
