The secret to beautiful skin is found in a:
-
healthy diet,
-
regular exercise
-
balanced lifestyle
However, the inevitable effects of ageing combined with the additional factors of sun exposure, smoking, poor diet and stress all take their toll and eventually leave their mark. There's nothing new about worry lines, frown lines, crow's feet or other wrinkles caused by smiling, laughing or frowning but there is a very effective way to treat them - It's called Botulinum Toxin (Botox). As your skin ages, it loses its natural collagen and hyaluronic acid. This weakens your skin’s structure and appearance. Dermal filler treatments are used to assist in smoothing out wrinkles, frown lines or folds on your face.
MediClinic can rejuvenate your facial appearance with our unique range of anti-ageing cosmetic treatments. By using the best non surgical solutions, our rejuvenation program works to enhance the natural beauty of your skin by eliminating fine lines and wrinkles and restoring younger, healthier, more vital looking skin.

Botox - Priced from £215
Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a chemical produced by the botulinum bacteria. Botox is a protein derivative of this toxin, which, when injected into a muscle, causes it to become weakened or inactivated. It stops the muscle from functioning by blocking neuromuscular transmission – i.e. it stops the chemical message from the nerve to the muscle.
As long ago as 1978, Botox was used as a treatment for patients with eye squints by weakening the overactive eye muscle. Since then, it has been used in a variety of therapeutic areas such as spasmodic neck, writer’s cramp, tics, multiple sclerosis, facial spasm, Parkison’s Disease and cerebral palsy, to name but a few. In more recent times the use of Botox for cosmetic therapy has become more widespread.
By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older, these areas of overuse become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away.
For the first couple of years, frequent treatments are required to ‘re-educate’ the facial muscles. Thereafter, treatments would be less frequent.
In high concentrations, Botox is a potentially harmful. However, the minute dose of Botox administered during cosmetic therapy, has a very high margin of safety, and the area in which the Botox spreads is about the size of a fingernail around the injection.
The procedure takes between 5 and 10 minutes. The practitioner will ask you to use certain muscles of the face to observe how they work and discuss which areas you would like to improve. They will then explain the process and proceed with the treatment. Following this treatment the area may have some slight redness and swelling, which normally returns to normal within an hour or two. The treatment starts to take effect after 4 to 14 days, but this may vary slightly with some individuals. The effects of the treatment should last between 2 and 6 months depending on the individual, whereafter you will start to notice an ability to move the muscles more freely.
An extremely fine, short needle is used to insert Botox into the appropiate area. A sensation similar to an insect bite might be experienced. However, most people describe the treatment as painless.
Dermal Fillers - Priced from £350
MediClinic uses non-permanent filler materials, typically Restylane, to fill facial lines, ageing skin and acne scars. Restylane is an animal-free product.
Dermal Fillers are typically used for filling of:
- Nasolabial folds
- Permanent frown lines
- Crows feet
- Smoker's lines
The result of the filler material is immediately apparent, and the duration is variable between 2 to 6 months.
It is often very effective to use Botox in combination with a filler, and the result is outstanding. MediClinic offers botox consultations in Guildford and Wimbledon.
