The presence of Avian Influenza or Bird Flu has been much publicized in Asia, considering most of the reported human transference of the disease occurred on the continent. An outbreak of a highly contagious strain of Bird Flu first broke out in South Korea in 2003, and has since resulted in the death or culling of more than 100 million birds. Research into vaccination both for humans and birds has progressed in leaps and bounds, although the disease remains a rare one for humans.
